If your events already exist digitally somewhere – in a club portal, a league system, or a spreadsheet – you do not have to retype them. In calpit, every calendar has an Import section.
Two ways
- ICS link (recurring). You store the address of an ICS file – up to five sources per calendar. calovo fetches them regularly afterwards, so new and changed events follow automatically. Only ICS files are supported as a URL source.
- File upload (one-off). Via the link “import a file from your hard drive” you upload an ICS, CSV, or XLSX file. That is a snapshot – it does not update itself later.
webcal links work. If your address starts with webcal:// or webcals://, you can paste it as is: calovo converts it to https:// automatically when saving.
CSV and Excel: the rules
The fastest route is to download the CSV template or the XLSX template in the upload section and edit that. Otherwise:
- The first row holds the column headers; every event goes in its own row.
- The first row must contain at least “Titel”, “Beschreibung”, “StartDatum”, “StartZeit”, “EndDatum”, “EndZeit”, “Ort”, “EventLink”, “ErinnerungWert”, and “ErinnerungEinheit”. Description, location, event link, and reminder may be left empty.
- Date: DD.MM.YYYY (for example 05.08.2026), time: HH:MM. All-day events need no time.
- Allowed delimiters are semicolon, comma, or tab.
- Save the file as UTF-8 – in Excel as “CSV UTF-8”. Otherwise the import stops with a character encoding notice.
- For sports fixtures, add “Spielart”, “Spieltag”, “HeimTeam”, “GastTeam”, and “Ergebnis”; results are written as
X:X.
“0 events imported” – what it almost always is
For file uploads, calovo shows a preview with the number of events found before anything is saved. If nothing is created in the end, one of these is usually the reason:
- All events are in the past. They are skipped while the “import past events” switch is off. Turn it on and upload the file again.
- The date format is wrong. It must be DD.MM.YYYY – a format Excel reformatted on its own (such as 2026-08-05) is not recognized.
- Delimiter or character encoding do not match – or the ICS file contains no event at all (no VEVENT).
The message always states how many events were found, imported, and skipped. That is the quickest hint whether the file was not read at all (found: 0) or whether the events were merely filtered out.
What an import overwrites
With a recurring import the source wins: changes you made by hand in calpit are overwritten on the next run – unless you explicitly marked the event as protected. Protected events stay untouched and appear as “skipped” in the result message.
